What is driving licence exchange
Once you become resident in Portugal, you are required to exchange your foreign driving licence for a Portuguese one. The timeline and documents required depend on your nationality and the country that issued your licence. Some countries have exchange agreements with Portugal — others don't, which changes the process significantly.
Why use Algarve Made Easy
The exchange process involves IMT (Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes) and requires specific certified translations and forms that vary by origin country. Getting this wrong causes costly delays. We manage the full process and know the requirements for each nationality.

- Valid passport
- NIF number
- Portuguese residency documentation (AIMA registration or residency card)

Everything included in your service
- Assessment of your specific licence exchange pathway
- Document preparation and certified translation arrangement
- IMT appointment booking and management
- Medical certificate appointment coordination
- Full follow-up until Portuguese licence is issued
